The Fron state commons has 19 lakes and about 10 rivers and streams, from roadside lakes and rivers around Slangen to lakes in Børkdalen that take a couple of hours to walk in to. There are generally good brown trout stocks in all the lakes and rivers, whitefish in Slangen and Olstappen and some Arctic char in Øvre and Nedre Sprentjønn. The Espedalen village commons lies on the edge of Langsua National Park and also holds whitefish and perch. Nymph in the current in Slangselva and Espa, dry fly on calm evenings in the Børkdalen lakes. - Bait ### Ice fishing with a jigging spoon Anyone may ice fish with hooks, without fixed gear, in the Espedalen village commons, and in the Fron state commons Slangen and Olstappen are open all year. Centre: 61.3960, 9.2766 ## Licence and rules Advisory - The licence is valid all year. - In the Fron state commons, rod and handline fishing is allowed all year in the rivers Hinøgla, Vinstra, Slangselva and Børka and in Slangen, Olstappen, Bingstjønn, Øvre and Nedre Sprentjønn, Øvre Svarttjønn, Øvre and Nedre Børkdalsvatn and Nedre Massingtjønn. - In the rest of the state commons, fishing is closed during spawning, 1 Sep to 10 Oct. - In the Espedalen village commons, all fishing is closed 11 Sep to 20 Oct, except in Vinstervatna, Stor-Åkre, Me-Åkre, Ner-Åkre, Flekkvannet, Strålvatnet, Ramstjønn and Breisjøen and in the rivers Sikkilsdalsåa, Åkrestubben, Flekka and Stråla. - The licence covers rod and handline. - Under-18s fish for free, but in the Espedalen village commons they must get a free licence. - In the Fron state commons you may fish with two rods and five handlines per licence, and live bait is banned. - In the Espedalen village commons the licence covers one rod or one handline, and anyone may ice fish with hooks, without fixed gear. - In rivers and streams only rod and handline are allowed, with a landing net as an aid. - The licence does not cover otter boards or nets. - In the Fron state commons, non-residents may also fish with nets in Slangen, Olstappen and Finnbølstjønn, and with an otter board in these lakes and in Øvre Svarttjønn and Øvre and Nedre Børkdalsvatnet. - The listing states no catch limit. - Verify with Fron Fjellstyre.
