The licence covers Langmorkje and Nordherad state commons in Vågå and Vågå municipality's lakes Flatningen, Nedre Sjodalsvatn and Gjende with the river down to Øvre Sjodalsvatn, about 910,000 decares in all, mostly on the south side of Ottadalen. The area ranges from Gjende (985 m above sea level), about 20 km long, to small tarns, and the Sjoa river runs down through Sjodalen. The main species is brown trout, and Arctic char lives in Flatningen (776 m above sea level) and Surtningen. Many lakes and river stretches lie close to a road, and county road 51 runs right through the area.

Trolling on Lemonsjøen and Flatningen is among the most popular fishing here, and trolling is allowed 1 Jun to 15 Sep with two rods per angler. From shore, small spoons and spinners work.

The Sjoa from the outlet of Gjende and downstream is among the most popular spots. A fly rod is allowed from a boat on the lakes for the whole rod season, but in rivers and streams fishing from a boat is banned.

Jig with bait from when the ice forms until into the new year. Set ice rods are not allowed on Flatningen, and jerk jigging is banned.

## Licence and rules

Advisory

- Rod fishing is allowed from 15 May through 10 Oct.
- From 10 October to 15 May the licence covers ice fishing only, and ice fishing is allowed on all lakes.
- Trolling and otter-board fishing are allowed 1 Jun to 15 Sep.
- The listing states no catch limit.
- In rivers and streams only rod fishing is allowed, and fishing from a boat is banned.
- Foreign visitors who do not live in Norway may fish with one rod, also on the ice, but not with set ice rods.
- Jerk jigging is banned, and set ice rods are not allowed on Flatningen.
- Non-residents may fish with otter board on 16 named lakes and with nets on 8 lakes, see the rule booklet.
- On lakes with net fishing, trolling and rod fishing from a boat are allowed only between 10:00 and 17:00 in the net periods, except fly-rod fishing.
- Outboard motors up to 10 hp are allowed on Flatningen, Lemonsjøen and Nedre and Øvre Sjodalsvatnet, up to 6 hp on Nedre Leirungen, and electric motors up to 800 W on Melingen.
- On Gjende and Bessvatnet only residents may use a motorboat.
- Children under 16 need no licence to fish with rod and set ice rods.
