Øystre Slidre state common and Heimdalen extend north and east of the valley and cover more than 60 percent of Øystre Slidre municipality, from birch and conifer forest to bare mountain. The area has about 80 fishing lakes and around 100 km of brooks and streams that hold fish. All lakes hold brown trout, only 3 of them hold perch, and Eurasian minnow is established in most of them. Vinstre (1032 m above sea level) is the largest and most important fishing lake.

Advisory

- Fishing is allowed all year, except that all fishing in rivers and brooks is banned from 5 Sep to 25 Oct.
- The rod licence gives the right to fish with up to 2 rods, handlines or ice-fishing rods.
- The rod and otter licence also allows otter-board fishing in Rjupetjednet, Urektjednet, Perstjednet, Storetjednet in Skreddalen, Stortjednet at Skaget and Sanddalstjednet.
- When trolling, the limit is 2 rods per angler and 4 rods per boat.
- The angler must be present and watch the gear at all times.
- A rod or handline set out from the shore or fixed on the ice without supervision counts as set gear and is not allowed.
- Boats are allowed on all lakes, but a motor only on Vinstre, maximum 10 hp.
- Live fish as bait is banned.
- Private waters and special rights are not included: Melby sameige and Hålien sameige in Vinstre, Skindroåne and the bay at Skindro, Øvre and Nedre Bjødnhølen, Fjelldokkvatnet, Veslevatnet, Midtvatnet and Høvssjøen.
- Children under 16 need no licence, and young people up to the year they turn 20 get a licence for NOK 1.
