Storsjøen (252 m above sea level) is about 35 km long and holds one of the country's large-trout stocks, and big brown trout run up from the lake into the Mistra early in the summer. The Ytre Rendal JFF area has Nordre Rena, Lomnessjøen, Åkrestrømmen and the Rensjøen lakes, with grayling, brown trout, Arctic char, whitefish, perch and pike. Andrå and Sjøli on the east side of Storsjøen have many small lakes with brown trout and Arctic char. Eastern Norway ## Gear and lures - Spinning ### Trolling for large brown trout in Storsjøen Trolling is the most common method for visitors on Storsjøen. Use plugs and spoons, with at most 6 rods per boat. North of the line from Sputnesset to a point south of Åsheim, trolling is banned 15 Sep to 15 Nov. - Fly ### Grayling and trout in the rivers Class 5-6. Nymph and dry fly in the Mistra, Nordre Rena and Åkrestrømmen. Trout under 30 cm go back, and from 20 Aug so do trout over 40 cm, so bring a landing net and pliers. - Bait ### Ice fishing for char in Andrå Valsjøen is known for good ice fishing for Arctic char. The licence covers 2 jigging sticks for ice fishing. [Arctic char](https://finnfisk.no/en/royefiske) Often in deeper water in mountain lakes. Small spoons in red or natural colours. Best morning and evening. [Whitefish](https://finnfisk.no/en/sikfiske) Hard to catch on lures, usually taken on net or worm. Rarely a sport target, but present in many waters. A wire trace is a must. Centre: 61.7451, 11.3640 ## Licence and rules Advisory - Storsjøen: All fishing from shore and boat is banned 1 Jan to 28 Feb, but ice fishing and jigging are allowed. - North of the line from Sputnesset to a point south of Åsheim, trolling is banned 15 Sep to 15 Nov. - Åkrestrømmen, Mistra, Nordre Rena, Lomnessjøen and their side rivers and brooks: brown trout 1 May to 15 Sep, other species all year. - Andrå: brown trout are protected 15 Sep to 15 Nov, and all fishing in running water is banned 1 Jan to 20 May. - Sjøli: fishing all year. - The main licence covers five areas with their own rules, and anglers must learn the rules for each area. - Storsjøen: brown trout minimum size 50 cm and maximum size 65 cm, at most 2 trout between those sizes per angler per day, and at most 2 trout over 65 cm per angler per season. - Set gear is banned in Storsjøen north of the line from Sputnesset to a marked point south of Åsheim, and trolling is limited to 6 rods or lures per boat. - Åkrestrømmen, Mistra, Nordre Rena, Lomnessjøen and their side rivers and brooks: brown trout minimum size 30 cm, at most 1 trout over 40 cm per angler per day up to and including 19 Aug, and from 20 Aug all trout over 40 cm must be released. - Only rod, jigging stick and handline are allowed here. - Otter boards are allowed in Fuggsjøen. - The listing also allows otter boards in Lomnessjøen, but the rules attachment for Lomnessjøen allows only rod, jigging stick and handline. - Fishing from a boat is banned on Nordre and Søndre Rensjøen. - Andrå: fishing from any floating craft is banned, except for owners and users of the cabins at Valsjøen, Villsjøen and Veksen. - The Andrå licence covers 1 rod or handline and 2 jigging sticks for ice fishing. - Arctic char under 20 cm in Valsjøen must be released. - In Veksen in 2025 to 2029 you may keep 1 brown trout per angler per day, and all trout over 40 cm must be released. - Across the whole area, set gear is banned in rivers and brooks and within 100 m of inlets and outlets in lakes, and bait fish that do not occur naturally in the water are banned. - All catches must be reported. - Only anglers aged 16 and over need a licence in Åkrestrømmen, Mistra, Nordre Rena and Lomnessjøen, and in Andrå children under 16 fish for free. - Verify with Mistra Elvelag.
