The table below has 26 lakes within 35 km of Bergen stasjon in a straight line, each with a fishing-card offer on inatur nearby. For 10 of them the card nearby does not cover the lake, and the table says so. The nearest of the others are Kalandsvatnet, Insta Raudlivatnet and Raudlitjørna. By public transport the trip to Kalandsvatnet takes 45 minutes on a Saturday morning. Insta Raudlivatnet and Raudlitjørna have no good public transport connection.

## What to know in Bergen

- On Bergen kommune’s own land, fishing is free for everyone. The exceptions are watercourses with salmon and sea trout, and watercourses that supply drinking water.
- The kommune’s outdoor map shows with a green line along the shore where the kommune owns the shoreline and anyone can fish from land.
- The kommune names Nubbevatnet on Landåsfjellet, where it owns the whole shoreline, and Liavatnet in Åsane. They are not in the table, which lists only waters with a fishing-card offer on inatur nearby.
- The cards in the table are sold by landowner groups and hunting and fishing clubs, among them Kalandsvatnets grunneierlag and Bergens Jæger- og Fiskerforening.

2. Read who sells the card, and which lakes it covers. The offer page shows the seller, and usually the rules too.
3. Choose the type of card and pay.
4. Carry the card when you fish. An inspector can ask to see it.

## About the travel times

## Common questions

### Do children need a fishing card in Bergen?

- Children under 16 may fish free in fresh water, Bergen kommune writes. The law gives that right from 1 January to 20 August, but not in watercourses with salmon and sea trout. The kommune writes that the right does not apply in watercourses used for drinking water either. Bergens Jæger- og Fiskerforening lets everyone under 18 fish free in Raudlio, with no card. ### Can I eat the fish from the lakes in Bergen?

- It depends on the lake and the fish. Bergen kommune writes that lakes near the city are often polluted, in particular Tveitevatnet, Hjortlandsstemma and Ortuvatnet. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority advises everyone not to eat large pike, perch over about 25 cm, or trout and char over one kilo. Pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five should not eat freshwater fish they caught themselves.
