The table below has 25 lakes within 20 km of Trondheim S in a straight line, each with a fishing-card offer on inatur nearby. For 7 of them the card nearby does not cover the lake, and the table says so. The nearest of the others are Lianvatnet, Kobberdammen and Haukvatnet. By public transport the trips there take 32, 41 and 37 minutes on a Saturday morning, in that order. TOFA also sells cards for lakes that are not in the table. Among them are Theisendammen, Baklidammen, Kyvatnet, Svarttjønna and Nydammen, and each of them is nearer the station than any lake in the table. Vintervatnet within 20 km also has a fishing-card offer nearby, but it is closed to fishing and is not in the table.

What to know in Trondheim
- Trondheim og Omland Fiskeadministrasjon, TOFA, lists 68 lakes and rivers on its pages: 30 in Bymarka and Leinstrandmarka, 28 in the Jonsvatnet area and 10 in Malvikmarka. In one of them, Vintervatnet, fishing is forbidden. Blomstertjønna by Skistua is the children’s water: only children under 16 may fish there, and they fish free. The cards for the rest are on inatur.
- In Bymarka and Leinstrandmarka you may fish only with a rod from the shore. The exception is Stor-Leirsjøen, where you may also fish from a boat or a float tube.
- Lianvatnet, Haukvatnet and Kobberdammen have their own rules. You may fish there from 1 May to 31 October, with one rod, and kill at most 3 trout per day.

Common questions
Do I need a fishing card in Bymarka?
- Yes, from the age of 18. Children under 18 need no card for TOFA’s inland fishing, but they must follow the same fishing and access rules. Carry the card when you fish, and show it to the police or an inspector who asks.
Can I fish in Jonsvatnet?
- Yes, with TOFA’s card for the Jonsvatnet area, with a rod from the shore or from a rowing boat. Jonsvatnet is Trondheim’s drinking water, so swimming is forbidden, and tents are forbidden closer than 100 metres to the lake. You may not fish with bait you brought, dead or alive.
