“All waters” shows every named lake and river in Norway (source: NVE). Zoom in for individual waters. A water on the map is not permission to fish it; verify locally.

Amber dots mark waters with a fishing-card offer nearby on inatur. This does not mean this exact water is included in the card, only that an offer exists in the area. Always check the offer on inatur. Where fishing is forbidden, free on terms that a source gives, or where the card nearby does not cover the water, the water gets no amber dot. A click on the dot shows that and the source. Where a source shows that another card covers the water, the dot links that card. It does the same where the water lies inside the area that another card has on inatur’s map.

What is on this map

The map has three layers. Curated fishing spots are 132 guides written by hand, with zones, species, recommended gear and the rules that apply. The licence offers are 800 listings from inatur, placed where the offer applies. All waters is the named lakes and rivers from NVE. 51,321 of the lakes are spread over 350 municipalities.

3,073 of the waters have a fishing-card offer nearby. That means an offer exists in the area, not that this particular water is included in the card.

If you would rather browse a list than a map, the same places are listed under fishing spots in Norway, with species, gear and rules for each one.

Common questions

Do I need a fishing card to fish in Norway?

For nearly all inland fishing, yes. You buy the card from the rights holder, usually through inatur.no or iFiske, and it covers a named water or area. Under-16s fish free in many waters. The rules differ from water to water, so always check the one you are going to. See which spots have a card

Where do I find a map of fishing spots in Norway?

Here. The map on this page shows curated fishing spots with their own guides, fishing-card offers from inatur, and every named lake and river in Norway from NVE. You can search a water by name, filter by municipality, and toggle each layer separately.

What is the state fishing fee, and does it cover inland fishing?

The state fishing fee applies to fishing for salmon, sea trout and sea char in a watercourse, and everyone aged 18 or over must pay it before fishing. In the sea it applies only to fishing with fixed gear, so fishing with rod and hand line in the sea is exempt. If you fish for brown trout, char, grayling, perch or pike in inland waters you do not need it. The exception is a salmon-bearing stretch while it is open for salmon, sea trout or sea char. You need a fishing card from the rights holder in any case. Who must pay the state fee

Must fishing gear used abroad be disinfected?

Yes. Gear used in watercourses outside Norway, such as rods, waders, nets and lines, must be disinfected before it is used here, to stop parasites and disease travelling with it. Many watercourses require a certificate showing it was done. Check the requirement for the watercourse you are going to before you travel. About the sources and caveats
